You Should Read — Taboo Topics
The Ethical Slut — Knowledge is power and this packed
A Practical Guide to Polyamory, Open Relationships, and Other Adventures
Read or Listen — Listen (10+ hours) because I wanted to get started on it immediately and had no patience to wait for delivery or to drive somewhere to pick it up. Perfect choice. It was narrated by the authors Janet Hardy and Dossie Easton.
What it’s about — Exactly what the subtitle says! Polyamory, Ethical Non-Monogamy (ENM) and other adventures… Topics most people either hide or shy away from. It goes into detail about myths, beliefs, types of relationships, types of sluts, shaming, boundaries, safety, conversations and communication and so much more! Examples and stories help to deepen the understanding of the dynamics between and of the people who choose to be involved.
The BEST book about speaking up for yourself in many ways!
Why I love it — While this book is about a subject that most mainstream people feel is deviant and taboo, it is full of information. If you hold negative beliefs surrounding this type of subject, this book will help you to understand it in a way that is very well done. Of course, you have to want to understand…
And yes, I do enjoy pushing the boundaries of the status quo and this book fills that need for me, but it is so much more than that! It encourages honesty within relationships — something many relationships lack — and it helps the reader/listener to understand their own boundaries. I have very little interest in being in any kind of polyamorous or ethically non-monogamous relationship, but I now have the information needed to have an open and honest conversation with my potential partners. Not to mention, that should I ever change my mind on this subject, I have a resource to use and/or share.
